This is a LONG...uh...MESSY...story...sorry for the pun there...

What truly confuses me on this is the lack of ACTUAL information.

There are only two camps on this:

1) The BP-US gomint Axis of Oil Greed story line "we got everything under control, things are fine..."

2) The conspiracy nuts and doomsday prophets "The sky is falling."

I think there's no question the US gomint under ANY administration has been giving BP a reach around for decades...but what does this mean for the rest of us?

IMHO, this is a 9/11 class event....a massive terrible thing the gomint will use to prod the people into another round of very damaging legislation to strip away even MORE of that pesky Constitution thing.  Just like 9/11 they'll use it drive the knee jerk reaction and ram rod through new crazy shit.

Did our gomint actually help CAUSE this on purpose?Huh

My opinion on this will probably be somewhat unpopular...

NO!  And neither did they cause 9/11!

The only reason I think this:  They aren't smart enough to pull off shit on this scale.  You're talking about a governing body that has sent NASA on a mission to make the Muslim world feel better about itself.  Oh, now the gomint LOVES wild eyed conspiracy nuts who put the fear of the gomint into the people!

So what the ultimate impact of all this?

Well, Oblama and pals gonna ram through new taxes, new laws, strip away more of your rights...nothing new on the agenda there, just a massive disaster to spur action...

The gulf coast will essentially die off.  Massive lost jobs, income, revenue from fishing, etc.  But that's OK, Oblama and pals got plenty of other tax payers out there to squeeze to make up for it.

BP will get a government bailout, it's only fair.

The habitat of the gulf will recover...probably give rise to a few new species and a couple of killer viruses that we'll all be told to panic over, rush out and get vaccinated for (can you say SWINE FLU??)...but that's a conspiracy theory for another day...

And WE get to foot the bill for the whole thing, through higher taxes and fewer freedoms.  The idea is the same as always, load such an inedible burden on the people they haven't got the RESOURCES with which to stand up and fight...

I've done some further research on this vid:

This is exactly what I'm talking about...an unconfirmed knee jerk reaction, dooms day prophecy based on  a couple of yocals with very low quality vid.

Ever seen it rain in the city after a long dry spell?  Oil sheen on the streets just like this!  It comes from cars and industry, not oil spills.

But this vid has gone viral, touted as proof the oil spill will kill all life on earth.

When in reality this vid is merely a valuable local report of conditions in DESPERATE need of scientific verification.  I'm am not suggesting this vid is wrong, I'm suggesting it needs to be investigated...the potential for inland devastation could be enormous.

On the one side media, gommint and BP swear as fact "It can NOT rain oil."  Though I have documented, proven cases of raining fish, frogs, debris etc.  On the other side it's doomsday "We're all gonna die."  But actual independently confirmed science?  Not gonna happen in this mess.

point taken but it does follow basic science principles. Its been reported that most of the oil is evaporating, light sweet crude will evaporate quicker than heavy crude. So solid, gas, liquid laws apply here too. if it will evaporate at sea level then it will condense back into a liquid at higher elevations and come down with the rainwater. probable, possible, unverified. the problem is you can't find anyone to trust that can verify it.

DW...that is what is driving me nuts about this mess...being that we're possibly in the firing line here for fallout from the oil spill.  There is no source of reliable information.

Have they gotten the well to stop gushing yet?

Yu know even if they show video of the well being capped off can you believe them
I mean really they landed a man on the moon. We all saw it on tv, right?

You can't tell me that even if you believe we did go to the moon. That you believe it without a doubt. Deep down you wonder if we did pull off the greatest hoax known to man

Would I believe a pic of the capped oil well?  Sure why not?  Do we have a wide angle to see all the other leaks in the system...NOPE.  Now I understand, at 5,000 feet of water getting broad camera coverage is just about impossible, but it's very difficult to see what's going on outside of that little frame.  They may show a cap on the well, but is it going to stop the oil?  That is another question we'll likely never get a truthful answer to.

Man on the Moon?  This conspiracy DRIVES me nuttier than BP's oil spill...

But THAT is another thread...

Hey just a quick point, a small teensy weensy point, could you please stop referring to it as BP's oil spill, BP had nothing to do with this oil spill, it was the owners of the oil platform that caused this problem, BP were renting it from them. The rigs owners had this accident, but were to pissy small to sort it all out and BP offered to assist and have now been blamed for it all. A british company offered a system that would have cleared the whole mess up in 48 hours, it was refused, ask your government why !! Mind you this hardly surprises me given that the US government likes to blame everybody but itself for anything that happens to wrong, anywhere.

Oh and the moon landing issue/hoax/double bluff etc etc take a look at a book called " A new photographic atlas of the moon" by Zdenek Kopal printed in 1971, 2 years after the famous moon landing.... in all the photos of the moon's surface there is no evidence of the equipment the americans claim to have left behind... interesting.

If the rig had not exploded and gone on to produce many million of barrels of oil, would BP have turned away the credit and the profits from that as well? Hmmm one has to wonder...can't have it both ways.  BP rolled the dice on this rig and lost.

It is everyone's favorite game here to burn the clods in Washington in effigy, hell it's a national sport these days...but the one thing missing here is actual "facts."  You know, those pesky little things that seem to be getting rare as a Hollywood movie that isn't a remake.

"Truth" is whatever you decide it is, "Fact" is solid, proven information that has no bias.

The truth about the oil spill or NON-SPILL is which ever way anyone wants to spin it.  The facts are curiously lacking....

Oh gee facts yeah I forgot all about them lil fekers....... well the "facts" as I have it, from the british press, my only source of facts given that BP and Obama aint returning my calls to verify anything factual are.
1. BP were renting said rig from a US company.
2. The US rig company were going to move said rig, but thought that BP had removed the drill/extraction pipe.
3. Neither company properly liased as to the status of said rig and during the process of attempting to move it an "accident" occurred resulting in a fire and the pipe being severed from the well head, some considerable distance below sea level.

To be honest I dont actually give a shit how it happened or who caused it or why.... the thing that never ceases to amaze me is how, when anything goes wrong, and lets face it you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette, everyone acts like a bunch of "caught redhanded" kids..... he did it, no he did it, he made me do it, did not, did to......
The reason these things happen is our selfish greed for oil, but not just any oil, cheap oil, so people cut corners and accidents happen, some are minor and are easily sorted, others have a more profound and longer lasting effect.
