Sup all,

Was out mding and filming yesterday and it finally hit me. I had my flow chart and storyboard, props, cam and trippod, LOADED down with detecting gear and my good buddy Iron man with me . It was an absolutely beautiful day and we where going to start filming my next project , an interactive detecting vid....THEN..

It hits me. I love exploring, I love metal detecting. AND now I have discovered that I enjoy filmaking. (if you must put a name to those weird things I do, then yes, filmaking)  For me filming a md hunt was beginning to suck the fun content from my adventures. AND while it was fun to try to intermingle my style with a mding vid....it was too hard to balance trying to draw the 2 together into a final object that had a cohesive flow.

SO, I am not going to make any more detecting vids although I am going to continue detecting and exploring and  OF COURSE I am  still going to frequent this site, joke and bs with you all in chat and watch as many of your vids as I can. This is a great place Jim has made here and I have met lots of interesting, funny and talented people.

Most importantly..I am going to educate myself in filming as time allows. I am going to make some purely "entertainment" style vids on a new youtube acct.  I have a number of ideas in mind and still have a lot of contacts from my old "community theatre" days and will endeavor to flesh out some full scale productions. AND yes, they will still be weird.....but it will be fun, FUN and less restricting than tying up my hunts or trying to tie in content to decting...The board is open and limitless in its potential.

Do I ever think I will be great at making these films, honestly no, LOL, but...I think it will be fun and hope to produce something new and entertaining....entertaining for you to watch and me to make. And if not....well, I still have my detector:) and can make some more vids that way to torment you all with, LOL.

So a big thank you to all of you for not only sparking my interest in video production, but also for the friendly help along the way..

Thx again, WPG

I completely, totally disagree!

It's not the metal detecting taking away your fun and making filming hard...it's the fact film making is hard work.

Can I suggest you keep shooting hunt vid?  For one it gives a structure, a challenge to meet.  Floating completely free it's easy to get lost, ramble off into pointless silliness.  You ever see my new year's eve vid?  That was a piece of shit!

Working within a structure like the hunt video forces you to think clearly about what you're shooting and why.  And YES, it IS difficult to shoot a good hunt vid, one laced with creativity.  But your recent vids have shown you can do it well....

And nothing says every vid has to be a hunting one for sure.  I shoot tons of different crap, still manage to hold the attention of treasure hunters (most of the time)

But I do hope you'll remember, this isn't entirely a metal detecting place...it's also about making better video.

I wish you luck in your future productions there dude, your past videos had class! Full on 80s B-Horror vibe, and Imean that in a really good way. Sam Raimi would be proud haha. But I can see your point of the detecting being a conflict, must be hard to work that into the themes you are trying to convey, I could see how it would be more of a burden than a hook. Hope to see you reserface with something new soon, good luck man!

I'm bloody useless at making videos and editing them.... mind you I usually forget to take the sodding camera with me ! .... Good luck with your next project.... can we make requests ? If so, I want to see a remake of Pirates of the Carribean please, no reason, just thought it would be interesting, but then I find ferrofluid videos interesting so there is no accounting for tastes eh ? ;0
